Born in San Sebastian of Spain’s Basque Country, Chef Najat has traveled extensively pursuing what she calls “the whimsical spirit of food.” She embarked on a journey spanning the world’s greatest restaurant kitchens and ultimately landed in the United States where she is dedicated to training children to recognize and respect the beauty and importance of clean, natural food. Philanthropy has always played a central role in her life. Throughout her journey, Chef Najat has worked to advance not only her own knowledge of global gastronomic culture, but to improve the lives of disenfranchised women and street children the world over.
Since 2011 Chef Najat has forged strategic partnerships with key thought leaders and policy makers to educate American children on the importance of having a healthy relationship with food as well as a basic understanding of the science behind food. Says Najat, “Children are our future, so we must all come together to do what we can to inspire them, educate them, and make a difference in their perception and understanding of food. That is why I approach food preparation and presentation with great respect, like a work of art. We all need to eat every day. Food is the single most important and direct connection between human beings and our Earth so it has to be a healthy one. I believe in the power of food, it has no fixed culture and sharing its magic brings humans together.” Recently, Chef Najat carried this message all the way to Beijing where she shared her unique “Science, Food and Creativity” workshop with thousands of Chinese children and their families at the 2013 Beijing Science Festival.
As a breast cancer survivor, Ms Kaanache also strives to achieve her dream of becoming a Michelin-starred female Chef in hopes of inspiring fellow cancer survivors and all women to fight to achieve their dreams and thus become champions against any and all odds.
Believe in Yourself,
and Remember that
Anything Is Possible
Believe in what makes you feel good.
Believe in what makes you happy.
Believe in the dreams you’ve always wanted to come true,
and give them every chance to.
Life holds no promises
as to what will come your way.
You must search for your own ideals
and work towards reaching them.
Life makes no guarantees as to what you’ll have.
It just gives you time to make choices
and to take chances
and to discover whatever secrets might come your way.
If you are willing to take the opportunities you are given
and utilize the abilities you have,
you will constantly fill your life
with special moments and unforgettable times.
but for those who are willing
to believe in their dreams and in themselves,
life is a precious gift in which anything is possible
Chef Najat has “Synesthesia” or “Joined Perception”. This is a unique condition in which one sense (for example, taste) is simultaneously perceived as if by one or more additional senses such as sight. Basically, this means that she can actually “taste” pictures and “hear” colors!
